This month marks 13 years since The Meagan Toothman Foundation officially became a 501(c)(3) organization. What began as a scholarship fund at Turpin High School nearly 15 years ago in the midst of losing our beautiful girl, became our new mission of ensuring her work would continue and the beginning of Meagan’s Foundation. We want to take a moment and thank all of Meagan’s supporters and donors over the years, including the initial donations that were received for scholarships specifically at Turpin High School.
We would like to thank our board members, comprised of our family and Meagan’s closest friends, who have worked with us over the last nearly 15 years to ensure that Meagan’s work of helping children reach their dreams and full potential continues. For our board members and for us, this is truly a labor of love. We are a small group doing mighty work in honor of Meagan and her memory. As of today, there have been 145 scholarships awarded in Meagan’s name to deserving students at Turpin High School, Wittenberg University, University of Cincinnati, and Just Off Broadway Dance Studio. These are all places that helped ignite passions and shaped Meagan into the person and professional she had become.
As a Delta Gamma sister at Wittenberg, Meagan was always finding ways to “Do Good” in her community. Therefore, in addition to providing scholarships, The Meagan Toothman Foundation, has provided support and donations to various programs that support children in our community. Some of the “Do Good Gifts” include Turpin After Prom; Western Hills Gymnastics Program; Brave Gowns-200 gowns to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital; Elementary Running Programs; various programs at Mercer Elementary; IPM-power packs; Summit Kindergarten Literacy Program; 9United back to school and holiday sponsor; Bridgeway Academy Sponsor; Western Hills Basketball Community Event Sponsor; CPS Athletics sponsor; Holiday gifts for families in need; Flying Pig Marathon 26th Mile for Kids Sponsor; Merwin Elementary playground fund; Wittenberg University; Wittenberg DG Sisters; Wittenberg Cheerleading Program; CincyKids4Kids holiday giving; Sleep In Heavenly Peace Beds; FHFE 5K for 9 years; Anderson Park District’s Run to Remember; and Lighthouse Youth Services. As of today, just over $207,000 has been donated in Meagan’s name. All of these donations have been given to causes that were both important to Meagan and positively impact the lives of students in our community.
These donations of support for kids would not be possible without our board members, supporters of Meagan’s Golf Tournament, Turpin Cheer Clinic participants, and all of you who have given your support and donations to Meagan’s Foundation over the years. We want to again say thank you for helping us to continue the work that our sweet Meagan is no longer here to do. We know she would be incredibly proud of the work and would be humbled by her legacy and impact on the successes of students and programs to the places that she held most dear.
With much gratitude,
Melissa Oakley (Meagan’s mom)
